2013 Academy of Art University, Spring Show

Forever 21: Top, Blazer, Jewelry | Amazon: Tights, boots | Lolita shop: Skirt
So this year I submitted something into the Academy of Art University's Spring show and I got two things in, both of which have a children's book feeling to them so I decided to put on my alphabet button up shirt that I got at forever21 which makes me feel like a children's book illustrator. Something about the cute letters just makes me think of children. Anyway, I'm very pleased to have gotten something into the show because this is my last year at the Acadamy and I don't think they allow alumni to participate. Which wont stop me from trying next year, haha. But, I do wish I had started submitting to the shows from the very beginning, there has been plenty of lost opportunities there but the past is the past and I can only be happy about the present. Which is pretty awesome.

Unfortunately, all the pictures of me at the event came out really blurry and the ones of me in front of my illustration were so bad that I decided that I would doodle one for you instead. Try and put some of these artist skills to use! So here is a quick sketch, which was pretty fun to do and I sort of like the quick, sketchy look of it. So, on with the event. The Palace of fine arts, which is where it was held, was pretty large; but there are many different departments at my school that needed to be showcased so even though there was a lot of space, there was even more art. The place was packed, not only will various art but with tons of people probably somewhere in the thousands. It was pretty impressive but admittedly difficult to navigate with so many people everywhere.
The Golden key, fairy tale children's book cover illustration
Here is the illustration that I got in so you can see the actual piece. I wish I could say that I'm proud of it but since this is one of my older pieces and I have done more recent drawings that I like more, I cant say I love it. But I will say that I don't hate it, which is good. And even if I did I would still be glad that I could be part of the show! There are a ton of amazing artist being shown all summer and I would be crazy not to be proud. If you're interested, the other piece I got in was an interactive illustration of a little boy's room which you can click on things and cute spooky stuff happens.
The only not too blurry picture of me from the night next to Joko
I did manage to find and grab a picture with Joko my old advance perspective teacher. On a side note, that class was probably one of my favorites despite the huge workload and the fact that I didn't get any good pieces out of it. But I learned a lot and it was a ton of fun so I would suggest it to anyone who is an artist, I sort of wish I could take it again myself.

I also ran into a few of my friends who are all amazing artists and who let me take pictures of them next to (or near) their own illustrations that got into the show. Overall, it was a great experience and I am super glad that I am able to be a part of it. The show will be going on all summer at the palace of fine art so if you are in the San Francisco area, you should stop by and check it out. The illustration department is on the upper floor.

Until next time,

  1. Ah! Congrats on getting into the show, submitting to school-wide shows always got me nervous. I love your piece, all the details are so sweet... as is your outfit! That alphabet top, ADORBZ.

    1. Thank you!! Yeah I was super nervous but I'm still pretty excited that I got something in! And I'm glad you like my top, when I saw it I knew I had to have it!!

Thank you so much for your comment, I read all of my comments and try to reply to as many as possible.
