Gatsby Picnic 2009

Me before the event and outfit change
In 2009 I went to my first vintage event the Gatsby Summer Afternoon Picnic which is put together by the Art Deco Society every year in September (just in time for my Birthday). The even't is 1920's-1930's but I didn't really know what to expect, all I knew is that Jonathan (the reason I am lucky enough to go to these) had a dress waiting for me at the event and all I needed to do was my hair and make up in a 1920's fashion.

I had loads of trouble trying to get my  hair to look nice but since I knew I was supposed to have a hat with my outfit I didn't bother trying to make it perfect, which turned out to be a big mistake considering that the hat didn't work out. Any-hoo....

I have to admit that I wasn't too fond of the dress that was chosen for me, because although it looks lovely in this picture, It wasn't a very flattering cut, and it seemed a little big. Now some of it, has to do with the fact that 1920's fashion doesn't suit me quite as much as 1930's, but I didn't really know that at the time.

You can see the Dunmuir Estate behind me, and the transportation vehicle that drove us down to the picnic area. Its pretty nice because its sort of a long walk to get from the house to the street, and also once your driving to the picnic area you are entering a new world because you are leaving the modern bathrooms and the clothing rental booths behind. (My friend Jonathan now runs the clothing rental booth for these events)
This time there were lovely paintings being displayed
I know its blurry, but I love this picture anyway
At all of the Art Deco Society events, (or at least the ones that I have been to) the Deco bells do a dance performance. They are really lovely girls and they are so cheerful, nice and cute. The performances that they do are usually really adorable as well so its pretty fun to watch.

Cutest matching mom and daughter outfit!

And here you can see some of the lovely outfit that Jonathan got for us to wear.

There is also a car show associated with the Gatsby Summer Afternoon picnic, so people get to bring their vintage cars onto the picnic area, and this year a lovely man with a vintage Ice-cream truck dressed up and handed out free Ice-cream.  As you can see, he looks absolutely fabulous and every year after I hope for him to show up again!

And then we danced, ate food, took pictures and had a really fun time! I pretty much forgot that I didn't like the way I looked and just enjoyed myself. I absolutely love these things and now that I have more time I plan to go to many many more and eventually I might even build up a little vintage wardrobe of my own. But I'm a big fan of the 1950's so I'll probably get vintage in that era first.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed. I think I might start editing my vintage event photos like this from now on because I absolutely love the way it looks. I might even say it looks a little fabulous. I also have a few more vintage events from the past to show you that I'll sprinkle in here and there, but I do plan on going to a good deal more of these in the future because I adore dressing up. Which means, be prepared!

Also if you have gone to any vintage event, post links to the photos below, I would love to see them!

Until next time,

    1. Hello October,

I would say you should, they are so much fun especially if you like vintage stuff. A lot of them put on little shows that give you a more authentic feel. And these usually have live bands which is pretty cool too.
