Throw Back Thursday: Ape 2012

Holly, Me and Caitlin
So last October I went to and sold at my first convention ever which was the San Francisco's Alternative Press Expo aka Ape. We originally had four people to our table and at the last minute one of my friends couldn't make it which turned out to be a blessing in disguise considering we had a hard time cramming three people at our table.

I think we did a pretty good job with what we had, the problem was that people didn't realize that there were three of us and would talk to one of us and grab someones else's business card and walk away before we could tell them. We had to make little signs that pointed to each of our business card piles.

A few of our friends stopped by our table and did some print trades and even some purchases which was pretty awesome. We also took shifts and got a chance to walk around and see all the amazing artists and table displays there. And since everyone's stuff was priced pretty low, we also got to buy a bunch of stuff from artist we admired for really good prices. In some cases I would say too good.
The two pieces of mine that did the best were my Geisha illustration and my Baroque style Powder my wig portrait illustration. There were a few others that sold a few but these were the most popular. I feel like I have improved a lot since I did these and I feel that next year I will have even better illustrations. Ill probably still sell the Baroque Portrait though.

Holly, Me and our artist Friend Jacob hang out at our booth
Then, at the end we knocked down our prices to "Pay what you want" with a minimum of $2 and most people were pretty generous and paid good money which was a nice thing to see. We also got some company at our booth from a friend of ours who had picked up that snazzy crochet hat of Bender from Futurama only a table away.

Did I mention that the wonderful artist Kevin Wada pointed out that me and Holly where two of the cutest dressed ladies that he saw at the expo! That was a compliment I couldn't help but adore. He was really nice and so were a lot of the people there. I met a bunch of awesome people and I even made a good amount of sales although I didn't make enough to cover all of my costs especially since I couldn't help but buy so much stuff! Overall I had an Amazing time and I can't wait until the next one. This year we will only have me and Holly at a table and hopefully we will be more in the middle of the convention. I also have so many ideas that I can't wait to do for it.

And since I have my new camera I should I have better pictures of the next one.

Until next time,
